Val & me.

Mom Dukes came out to (un) sunny Cali to visit for Mother’s Day (click the image to the left, ours is the 2nd photo, toward the bottom). As I type this note (it’s actually Monday afternoon), she is getting scrubbed and buffed at the Korean Day Spa. I assume that she’ll be floating out into the lobby in about 30 minutes.

Although the sun came out like for a half-hour, total, during her trip, I think she’s had a swinging, good time. The highlight was a Saturday night visit from some of her West Coast-transplanted-Jamaica-New York cronies who came over for a little wine and her now-signature salmon orzo salad. Mind you, while my girl, Rio, stopped by with her son, Myles (who sports a killer, toddler ‘fro), Val hosted a semi-full house. I just love that her social life booms waaaay louder than mine.

After a vegan brunch with Yor-el, me & Val did dinner at Chaya Venice last night. Tonight, we’re going straight Cuban at Versailles in Hermosa Beach. Oh, and we’ve got to load up her snazzy, new MP-3 player, which came in a swag bag I received last week. The first thing she said when we opened the box was, “I can’t believe I have an MP-3 player!” Dare I mention that she was listening to a disc-man, which is just sooooo 1988!

She’s heading back east on Tuesday morning. Something tells me that I’ll be feeling misty at the airport.
