I know just how you feel…

Although summer 2010 in LA has not panned out to be anywhere as hot as I had hoped it would be, I have tried my best to enjoy every, single day (even on the days that I wake up to gloomy, chilly air – sigh). It’s been a challenge for me, trust!

So, what does all of that have to do with El Debarge, you ask? Hold on, just give me a second to explain…

There have been a few things that have kept me sane in the last two months. The first, is my summer reading list. Just last night, I finished “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake,” which I also selected as the second selection for my friend’s new book club. I’m not usually a fan of magical realism, this book took me on a ride. At a certain point, I simply could not put the book down! Next it’s me & Ms. Angelou, for the rest of the summer…and into the fall! Can’t wait to read each volume of her memoir. I’ll start (again) with Caged Bird this week. Looking forward to refreshing my memory.

The other thing that’s kept me sane is my day trips up and down the California coast. This past weekend was a stop in Santa Barbara where I had THE most incredible wheat germ-dusted, blueberry pancakes, ever. I will be back to that on-the-beach spot very soon. The day was pure bliss, especially once the sun burned through the grey sky about 2pm.

The trip that meant the most to me this summer was my drive down to San Diego two weeks ago. I got a Wednesday afternoon call last minute invite to a group dinner with El during the NABJ Convention.
