OK, before I start rambling about the small stuff, a well-deserved shout-out is in order for Mr. Obama for totally working his show in Iowa. Who could be mad?<\/p>\n
Just got in from the premiere of The Wire’s <\/em>final season. I’m so addicted to the show, have interviewed a handful of the cast and am sad to see it retire in 10 weeks. They’re taking the focus off the kids, for a minute, to expose the spin cycle that is our media. I know where I’ll be every<\/em> Sunday night.<\/p>\n Have been making the rounds, checking in on family friends. Had lunch with Ms. West today who, along with a whole tribe of Val’s friends, raised me into who I am today. Her house was basically my oasis when I was growing up and as soon as I stepped into apartment #5A today, I felt like I was seven years old. Everything is just as I remembered…every picture in its frame, every glass in the china cabinet lined up perfectly. I loved spending the afternoon with her and was finally able to laugh about getting stuck in the bathroom all those years ago. I was probably in there for 20 minutes, but I swear it felt like an eternity. At the time, I was inconsolable, but today, I cracked up at the memory. I guess that means I’m all grown up, right?<\/p>\n My friend’s son is turning 10 this weekend, so I must pick up a little something for the kid who has everything, including, of course, the latest PlayStation. How can I top that? Honestly, I don’t think a book (my gift of choice) is gonna cut it. He’s got a great sense of humor, though, so here’s hoping he’ll get a kick out of whatever I find for him. Fingers crossed.<\/p>\n Met a deadline today (yeah!) and have a few more looming, but I need to rest the brain for a sec. Reading will help with the whole input-output thing, so I’ll be catching up on my January mags and trying to get into The Secret Life of Bees<\/em>, which is about to be a movie, too. Also, want to really get going on Eat, Pray, Love,<\/em> which for the record, I bought waaaaay before it was an Oprah book club selection. I take it with me everywhere – the park, the library, the couch – and I’m determined to finish it! There’s just so much to read and so little time. I remember hearing that bell hooks reads a book a day.
