The Sean Bell verdict is in.

Why am I not surprised?

I can’t even talk my way out of a traffic violation, so how does one explain firing 50 bullets at an unarmed man?

I’m not sure why, but it seems that more times than not, cops are able to slither their way out of charges whenever there’s civilian blood on the ground. Let said civilian blood be from the body of a black man and the boys-in-blue are definitely walking. It feels like an epidemic and sadly, there seems to be a high-profile case every 5 – 10 years involving New York’s finest using excessive force – Abner Louima and Amadou Diallo immediately come to mind.

Am waiting for the D.A. to make his statement on CNN.

In the meantime, what are we going to do? How do we shield ourselves from the violence administered by those who are paid to “serve & protect” us?

UPDATE: Queens D.A., Richard Brown, “accepts” the verdict and asks that we “accept” it, too.
