I didn’t get a chance to catch The Break-Up during its theatrical run, but I’ve grown to love this movie via HBO. Have you seen it?
Well, as I sit here battling my latest bout of writer’s block, I’m watching it, yet again, and I must admit that I learn something new each time I see it.
On the surface, it appears to be about Gary and Brooke’s break-up (and of course, their battle over who’ll get to keep that fabulous Chi-town condo). But, if you look a little closer, you’ll see that it’s also about friendship, family, loyalty, professionalism, maturity and accepting when you’ve gotten to that place where you know you have to let go…even if you’re not quite ready. What I love most about this movie is that there seems to be a glimmer of hope at the end. Life is all about timing. So is love. Could it be that I need to readjust my clock?
Catch it the next time you’re surfing through your channels. Oh, and Marilyn “who am I?” Dean (played by Judy Davis) is really quite fierce!
