can’t we just fast-forward through all of this?

Oh, that’s right, this is the presidential race…not my DVR.

I will admit that I am a flawed person. One of my flaws that I’m willing to admit here in the blogosphere is my desire to want to speed things up. I tend to just want to get to the good parts. It’s not the most healthy or mature outlook on life, I know, but sometimes, taking it one day at a time can be excruciatingly painful.

All that said, I am so completely stressed-out/anxious/overwhelmed by all of the election coverage, aren’t you? Aside from CNN marathons, the twisted pleasure I derive from watching Bill Maher every Friday and cracking up with Tina, Amy & Seth on SNL, I just want it all to be over. Can’t it be November 5th already? Wait, let me be clear – I want it to be November 5th, with the right man standing at the podium, humbled to be accepting his first presidency, by a landslide, and making history. Michelle, Malia and Sasha will be standing and smiling by his side.

But then I have to think that if things had been sped up, I would have missed Colin Powell’s long-anticipated endorsement (with feeling!) on Meet the Press on Sunday, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to see W. this past weekend (and buy my “support” ticket for The Secret Life of Bees, which I’ve already seen twice, and loved, at screenings) and I wouldn’t be able to cast my vote on the morning of November 4th. Oh, and as a sidebar, I will so be voting “No” on Proposition 8 out here in Cali. Have you seen those hateful commercials veiled as a “warning” to parents? I know that everyone might not agree, but I do believe that folks should have the right, and the freedom, to live their lives and simply, “do them.” Just my opinion.

But back to the presidential race. Barack is off to Hawaii to visit his sick grandmother. I surely hope she makes it to see him bring this home. Hang in there, grandma…he’s almost there. Speaking of which, what about the 106-year-old woman who’s thrilled to be alive, to be a witness? Talk about living to see the day…

Election Day is exactly two weeks from tomorrow. I’m going to try to cool my jets and take each 24-hour period as it comes. After all, the world, as we’ve known it, is about to change. Pun intended.
